Cheeky challenge sees Paul ride to some rude places

- By TOM MACK News Reporter justgiving.com/fundraising/paul-taylor233

A moped rider has completed a tour of the UK’s cheekiest place names including a rude-named road in Shepshed.

During his recent visit to Leicestershire on his little 49cc moped, Paul Taylor also took the opportunity to visit the Triumph Visitors Centre in Hinckley.

Sadly, just a few days later, on his way back from Orkney, Tomos - a Slovenian Tomos XL45 Classic moped - broke down in Aberdeenshire and Paul, from Oxfordshire, had to finish the trip by renting a car.

The 1,800-mile tour has so far raised more than £20,000 for The

Institute of Cancer Research in memory of Paul’s friend Alexis Leventis, who died last year from lymphoma at the age of 55, having successfully fought the disease since he was 18.

Stops along the way have included places with names such as Happy Bottom Nature Reserve, Ass Hill, The Knob, Titty-Ho, Willey, Penistone, Netherthong, Slack Bottom Road, Cocksburnspath, Wallyford and Cockermouth, before he ended his journey in Worcestershire in a village called in Bell End.

He shared updates on his trip on his Instagram account and posted updates on his JustGiving page, which included a snap of the Shepshed roadsign and a picture of him at the Triumph factory.

He met a fellow moped rider who also owned a Tomos, who accompanied him to Shepshed and helped him improve his saddle with a soft blue cushion. He said: “Met Phil Beevers at Triumph Visitors Centre and he joined me for a bit on his Tomos!

“He brought a cushion which has improved comfort from medieval torture device to like sitting on razor blades!”

Commenting on his JustGiving page about the reasons behind the journey, Paul said: “I was sick of cancer taking the lives of so many wonderful people and felt I had to do something to help beat this awful disease.

“I thought this trip was a suitably ridiculous place to start and as Alexis was a motorcyclist as well as a car nut, two wheels was not only appropriate but made it more of a adventure!

“I talked about my plans for this trip with him and he thought it was funny and a bit mad, I think he would be surprised I was actually daft enough to go through with it!”
