LRFC beat league leaders to maintain perfect record

TABLE toppers Harborough Town came to Leicester Road looking to make it 10 from 10 in the league but Neil Lyne’s side had other ideas.

Harborough sit top of the league having won nine games on the bounce but Hinckley LRFC were looking to maintain their perfect start to the season with five wins out of five and it was no surprise the game started at a blistering pace.

Harborough broke the deadlock against the run of play after 21 minutes when Sam Hollis ran through from what appeared to be an off-side position to beat Will Highland when in on goal with a one-on-one that crept over the line.

Great work by Langham and Brennan forced Harborough to concede a penalty on 30 minutes which Matty Langham duly dispatched to bring the scores level at 1-1.

Hinckley continued force the play and when Tom Smith was upended on 33 minutes Matty Langham stepped up again to put Hinckley up 2-1.

Hinckley continued in the ascendancy creating multiple chances but could not force the next goal before half-time.

The second started just as if the first had not stopped with Hinckley taking the initiative. Harborough started to claw themselves back into it as the game swung from end to end without either team creating any out and out chances.

Harborough made several changes before Neil Lyne introduced Jordan Burrows to replace Dom Brennan on 67 minutes and then Jake Brown for Matty Langham on 86 minutes.

In between those changes Harborough had their best chance on 86 minutes when a goal scramble followed an excellent corner but Harborough were not able to force over the line and LRFC held on for an impressive win.
