Defensive masterclass earns Jewiss victory

SUCCESS FOR TWO JUSTINS IN CARRERA CUP GB MEETING

-

TEAM Parker Racing made a triumphant visit to Croft in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

Kiern Jewiss claimed an overall victory for the Desford-based outfit after a masterclass in defending, while Justin Sherwood and Justin Armstrong both had wins in the Am class.

In Pro-Am, Ryan Ratcliffe maintained his lead in the standings with a pair of podiums, but it was a tougher weekend for Harry King.

He made a flying start to race one, getting third from Will Martin but then took some heavy contact at the hairpin as Martin tried to regain the place, which caused a puncture.

King was able to pit behind the safety car to change his tyre, but dropped to the rear of the field.

After the safety car, Armstrong lost the rear of his machine going into Tower Bend, spinning but keeping out of the barriers.

He fought back to pass Marcus Fothergill for third on the final lap, while Sherwood roared to his third-straight title with the win.

King also fought back, climbing from 17th to eighth, but was handed a five-second time penalty for track limit offences, which dropped him back to 12th.

Jewiss finished fourth, right behind Martin, while Ratcliffe claimed second in Pro-Am, outscoring title rival Micah Stanley in the process.

Starting second for race two, Jewiss held position and assumed the lead when Lorcan Hanafin hit the temporary tyre stacks at the chicane, breaking his suspension.

But when Martin also hit tyres at Sunny Out, one dropped onto the racing line and was collected by King, causing damage which also put him out of the race from fourth.

Jewiss defended brilliantly from Dan Cammish for the entire race, taking his third win of the season, while in the Am class Armstrong had a brilliant start and held Sherwood at bay for his second win in the series.

In Pro-Am, Ratcliffe fought his way past Stanley en route to third, extending his lead to 15 points with six races to run.
