Andy Morton wins memorial match

-

SUNDAY saw Measham AC stage the Terry Smith match, fished in good weather conditions on the Green Lane section of the Ashby Canal where it was hoped that everyone would catch some fish and remember a dear friend departed.

Once again the fish fed in limited areas and bites were hard to come by, the odd bonus fish would be crucial and ultimately weights were very tight indeed.

The winner on peg 56 was Market Bosworth angler Andy Morton who fed chop and maggot to the track as bread to the far ledge just didn’t work. Fishing worm in the deep water brought him just 2 bites - one, a small perch, the other a superb specimen around the 1.5lbs mark to give him 1lb 12ozs and the trophy.

Second place on peg 45 was Rugby angler Hubert Noar who like others struggled. Feeding pinkie to the far shelf he managed two small skimmers, so a switch to worm and maggot down the track was called upon. Sadly that only resulted in two small perch but did give him a weight of 1lb 9ozs.

Third place and very close behind was Nuneaton angler Phil Baker on peg 60 who fed worm and maggot down the track and patiently waited. His reward was eight small perch caught on and off for 1lb 8.5ozs. The section winners by default were - pegs 45-52 Measham angler Nish Padamsay on peg 50 who really struggled to get bites anywhere in front of him but did manage 2 small skimmers and 2 small perch for just 9ozs.

The other section - pegs 53-60 saw Ellistown angler Andy Smith on peg 53 sit until nearly 12pm for his first bite - a small perch on worm down the track. That was followed by a much bigger fish within minutes, another perch around 1.25lbs and whilst unfortunately losing an even bigger fish just before the whistle did weigh 1.5lbs.

Sunday will see Shackerstone AC stage the Arthur Clarke Memorial Open, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.
