Work starts on improvements

-

AREAS of a park in Burbage are to be fenced off while works to reduce the risk of flooding are carried out.

Workers will be on site on Rugby Road Park over the next few months to carry out the remedial works.

Officials say the fencing is necessary for safety reasons while the project takes place as well as to protect the newly landscaped areas of the green space while they become established.

The upgrade works are being carried out by the developer of the Sketchley Brook site, a new housing estate on the other side of Rugby Road, as part of their planning agreement with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.

Matthew Bowers, director of Environment and Planning, at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, said: “We at the borough council along with our colleagues at Burbage Parish Council apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause.

“We would ask visitors to the park to bear with us as the works are necessary and essential to ensure the park is handed over to the public in the best possible condition and with a reduced risk of flooding in the future.”

All open excavation areas will be cordoned off to prevent public access, with the fencing only to be removed once the area has been refilled.

The temporary heras fencing will change location as the works progress.

The park includes a children’s play area and sports court, which will remain open while the project take place.

There is also a path across the green space connecting Rugby Road to Bridge Road.

The green space is bordered to the north by the Leicester to Birmingham railway line and to the west by a retail park run by Heart of England Co-operative Society, which opened in January 2020.

The works in the Rugby Road park will last until spring 2022.
