Relaunched community centre wants to hear your ideas about new activities

-

A community centre that will offer activities for all age groups has just been relaunched by the borough council.

The Meadows Community Centre, in Burbage, will provide support to residents, tenants and young people, giving visitors access to public services including the police, housing officers,

Age Concern and the voluntary and community sector.

In addition, the centre will now host a range of activities for adults, young people and children, thanks to the work of the team that looks after the council’s community houses in Earl Shilton, Barwell and Wykin, who will also be working at the Meadows.

Many of the groups are new while some well-attended favourites will also be returning to the popular community venue.

At a recent open day, visitors were able to meet the venue’s new team and discuss options for further activities and plans for the future.

Rachel Duncan, community development co-ordinator, said: “We had a great open day. It was lovely to meet local residents and hear what they want to see happening at the Meadows.

“We already have a lot planned but we are open to any ideas. We hope people will come in and say hello.”

Councillor Michael Mullaney, lead member for community safety, said: “The open day was a great success and I was delighted to meet staff and local residents.

“This venue has always been popular and the previous team have done a great job ensuring that the centre was used for a variety of events.

“I am sure that our community development team will continue in the same manner and start to offer a wider range of services which will be of benefit to local individuals and families.

“It’s clear from the open day that there is enthusiasm to make the Meadows Community Centre a focal point for the community in the area of Burbage around it.

“I look forward to years more of community activities taking place there.”

Planned activities already include:
