Members of church congregation finally starting to feel the heat

-

CENTRAL heating has now been installed at Newbold Verdon Baptist Church.

Half of the cost was covered by the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council PCIF Grant funding.

Councillor Martin Cartwright, executive member for Rural Parishes, Climate Change, Licensing and Environmental, went along to see the installation.

Acting church secretary Doreen said: “It will make the church a warm, comfortable place for the community and it was installed just in time for the onset of the winter months.

“We hope this will contribute to the wellbeing of people, all of whom will have been affected by the pandemic, many of which suffered from loneliness and depression.

“The central heating will also protect the building as it is able to be left on low all the time, which should go a long way to resolve the significant condensation issues that we used to suffer.

“I would like to thank Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for the PCIF grant, without which we would not have been in a position to have this installed at this time.”

The church is now running a new initiative with the building open from 9am to 5pm every Wednesday to host a coffee morning, followed by a light lunch and Renew Wellbeing sessions in the afternoon.

Doreen added: “This will be a place where our motto is, it’s OK not to be OK. People with anxiety and mental problems can come and be welcomed with free drinks and optional craft tables and also a quiet prayer space.

“The drinks and food will be free; donations received are both welcome and go totally towards keeping the service running.”

Cllr Cartwright said: “I was delighted to be able to visit Newbold Verdon Baptist Church on a Wednesday morning in August just prior to the launch of the new wellbeing initiative, as the church wished to have a test day ahead of the proper launch.

“The installation of the central heating is a great benefit and I would

like to thank the contractors who have installed everything very professionally, whilst being sympathetic to the history of the building.

“The central heating will help protect the church and make it more comfortable during the winter months for the various activities that take place.

“Congratulations on your new initiative

“I am sure those who visit will benefit from the experience.”
