NEIL Lyne took a depleted squad to face an unbeaten Newport Pagnell at their Willen Road ground without the likes of Nathan Astill, Adam Hohn, Jack Harrison, Jordan Burrows and Dan Winterbotham to call upon.

A well prepared Willen Road pitch which had an end to end slope was blighted by the weather but it was Newport

Pagnell that adapted to the conditions first and soon settled into their stride.

Newport had the slope advantage in the first half and were the first to create any chances. The game ebbed to and fro for most of the first half with the Newport players looking to claim a foul at every opportunity.

The deadlock was broken on 29 minutes when Hinckley gave away the ball just outside the box and the Newport counterattack switched play and their striker curled in a great shot from right to left to put them 1-0 up.

The goal spurred on Hinckley and when Matty Langham won the ball just over the half way line he spotted the Newport goalkeeper off his line and planted his deliberate 40 yard lob over their keeper perfectly and straight into the back of the net to bring Hinckley back into the game at 1-1 after 33 minutes.

Hinckley won a corner which Dom Brennan swung in and Danny Jenno met it perfectly at the far post to head in and put Hinckley 2-1 up after 35 minutes. This decisive goal appeared to knock the stuffing out of Newport after they had dominated the first 30 minutes.

Hinckley LRFC came out for the second half in a more focussed frame of mind and asserted themselves straight onto the game. No real chances were created and Newport started to chase the game. This opened it up for Hinckley who started to find their rhythm and keep possession for longer periods.

Hinckley broke out of defence following another theatrical appeal for a penalty from Newport and Tom Smith is slotted into a one on one with the Newport goalkeeper and he delightfully chips into the empty net to put Hinckley 3-1 up on 80 minutes.

Newport tried to rally but their efforts failed to penetrate the Hinckley back line. Hinckley dominated the final 20 minutes and secured their ninth league win in a row and ended Newport’s own unbeaten run.
