Police investigating ASB in village park

- By NICK DAWSON News Reporter

POLICE have been monitoring the park and playing fields in a Leicestershire village after reports of anti-social behaviour.

Officers were out and about patrolling the green space in Newbold Verdon, on the evening of Monday, October 11, into the night.

Market Bosworth Police said that it will continue to work to identify culprits and bring them to justice.

In an update on the group’s Facebook page, the team said: “The types of incidents that have been reported to us will absolutely not be tolerated and, thanks to the newly installed CCTV, we will continue to identify perpetrators and deal with them appropriately.

“Parents - Do you know where your children are? Do you know what your children are doing? Would it surprise you to see us at your door?

“Please work with us and help to reiterate the consequences of ASB to your kids.”

The force issued a warning earlier this month about a spate of vandalism of a children’s play area, in a park in nearby Bagworth.

The Hinckley Times contacted Bagworth and Thornton Parish Council for more details, who revealed that the multiuse climbing frame, slide and sliding pole has been attacked by yobs 16 times this year, racking up a bill of more than £1,000 for taxpayers.

Damage has included planks of wood being smashed up, graffiti, food being smeared across the area and screw caps and heads being defaced.

Council officials at Bagworth & Thornton Parish Council said that the vandalism at the community space has been happening regularly since August 2019, shortly after the £55,000 amenity was installed earlier that year.

Attackers have smashed up plastic portholes in the play area several times, which cost around £85 to replace.

The playground has to be inspected nearly every day to keep track of the damage, preventing other works being carried out.

You can report an incident of anti-social behaviour or vandalism by calling 101.
