Gilbert family making hay in the 1930s in Earl Shilton fields
This week features another batch of pictures that were brought along to our recent scanning session at St Mary’s Church. Remember we are scanning on the third Saturday every month 10-12pm. Why not bring your pictures? We may even feature them here in The Hinckley Times.
Can you remember AMOA chemicals that for many years stood on the corner of Hawley Road and Rugby Road.
The founder of the company was Wilfred Billinghame who made his home on Sapcote Road in Burbage. Following the closure of the site it took a number of years before it was cleaned up properly and Hinckley’s first Lidl site opened there.
Richard Starbuck supplied these snaps of Earl Shilton Sunday School Treats dated to the 1950s.
A grammar School picture with no date was also supplied so maybe you recognise some faces from the past? If you do, get in touch with us at HDPP.
Lynn Lowe of Burbage brought an old picture to us explaining it was taken in Trinity Lane in 1930 with the lads boxing. Lynn’s mum Iris Walker (then Ward) along with other siblings are in the picture!
Popping back over to Earl Shilton Rosemary Coe supplied several pictures, including the view down what is today Doctors Fields. Also two views of Heath Lane and a wonderful view of haymaking. The Gilbert family of Earl Shilton are pictured hard at work in the fields that were then between Tower Road and Keats Lane.
A reminder as we are now at Remembrance that HDPP’s Roll Call of all the names on the Hinckley War Memorial is now on sale at Jaspers Hinckley and also from the Poppy stall in Britannia Centre. All proceeds from the DVD will be donated to the local Royal British Legion.
Remember we would love to see your pictures and we would love to see you at our next scanning session at St Mary’s Church on Saturday 20th November.
