New era for Barwell

- By PETE WARRINGTON Sports Editor

A NEW era starts for Barwell FC on Saturday (November 6) when they play their first home game of the season on their new 3G pitch.

The Canaries will host Tamworth in a Pitching In Southern League Premier Central fixture after a summer of contruction work at the UK Flooring Direct Stadium and the Barwell Sports Complex.

Club chairman David Laing said it marks a major moment for the club.

“After the awarding of grants, fundraising, planning permission and a summer of construction work this will be a very welcome moment for Barwell FC as a new era starts at Kirkby Road. The pitch has been welcomed by the local sporting community and is certain to be a valuable asset for the village and the surrounding area.

“Barwell FC will have played 14 away league games in a row, as well as away ties in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy, by the time this game comes around. There has also been a League Cup tie played at

Nuneaton Borough’s ground. The players and management staff are looking forward to a home game now and can’t wait to play in front of home fans again.

“Hinckley AFC, Barwell U21 and Barwell Cricketers FC will all be using the pitch for home games. There will also be a number of junior, ladies and other clubs using the pitch for training.

“We would be delighted to see as many people as possible back at the UK Flooring Direct Stadium for this game with Tamworth and the rest of our home games this season, as well as seeing people at the ground to support the other teams using it.”
