Birthday boy Joshua’s special day made even better thanks to staff

-

A BIRTHDAY boy had a lovely surprise when he visited his local McDonald’s in Hinckley to pick up a meal with his family.

Joshua Bates, from Stoke Golding, is often shy in social situations as he has autism and is blind, but as he was waiting at the drive through on Thursday, October 28, with his mum and two younger sisters, he asked if he could place their order himself.

Staff at the outlet, near Morrisons, readily took down his order, including a double cheeseburger, with no gherkins, for Joshua, who has just turned 16.

He told them it was his birthday and when his food arrived, he was also presented with a balloon, a crown and a flag, and one of the workers took the time to have a chat with him about his special day.

Mum Alison shared their experience on Facebook, which left her tearful because of the kindness they were shown.

She said: “He was delighted with it all. What a fabulous example of customer service they gave. They really made my son feel special. Thank you”

Several people commented to praise staff at the fast food branch.

Joanne Hanson said: “Amazing staff they look after my mum and dad really well, who are regulars, my mum likes the latte, Andy and Nicoletta always carry the tray for them and give them a smile and a wave.

“Well done to all the staff you’re doing amazing excellent customer service.”

Kathryn Graves also had a good review to share.

She said: “I’ve always been impressed with the staff at that particular McDonald’s, the staff there truly deserve praise (well done to the lovely lady in this instance).

“Lots of upmarket restaurants could learn a thing or two about customer service from these guys.”

Joshua made front page news when he was born in 2005, at just 23 weeks, weighing one pound five ounces.

He spent 144 days on a life support machine and wasn’t expected to live.

He didn’t start speaking until he was seven years old.
