Hinckley A turn on the style in impressive win

HINCKLEY A were away again on Saturday vs a tough Copsewood team. They pulled away within the first quarter and kept their lead throughout the match. With some brilliant defence, smooth through court play and sharp shooting, they came away with another win 56-46. Player of the match went to springy wing defence, Jess Rainbow.

Hinckley B team took to court against Rugby with a new positional line up. Great spatial awareness and positionin­g ensured Hinckley started off strong, the court opening up with precise passing into the attacking circle. Caron Ogden moved to centre this week and ensured a controlled pace throughout, whilst Bethany Willars was on fire in defence, with intercepti­ons galore.

The third quarter saw the B team take a dip but after a quick quarter time team talk, they regained composure and pulled away with a win, 50 – 34.

Hinckley C played Alec High at home this week in a tight game that was back and forth the whole match and could have gone either way.

After the first quarter Alec High were up, but by half time Hinckley had fought back strongly and pulled ahead 16-13. Hinckley adjusted their team in the third and kept the pressure on, but the game swung again.

Both sides strongly defended in the fourth quarter and forced turnovers, but Alec High held on to win 27-22. Player of the match went to Sue Ley at Wing Attack.

Hinckley D team faced Alvis D team this week on an increasing­ly windy Saturday morning.

Despite Hinckley D teams best efforts feeding into the circle, the accuracy of the Alvis shooters prevailed with Hinckley Ds losing 49-32. POM Tara Janda, adding GD to her repertoire of positions!

Saturday afternoon saw a close start to the match for Hinckley E who were hunting for their first win. Whilst the game remained close in the first half, the third quarter saw a change in Hinckley, now fighting for every ball they were able to gain a lead of 10 with Emma Brooks, Holly Pryor and Beth Dexter using some good set plays practiced in training to drive the ball through centre court.

Meg Smith and Derry O’Neill formed a strong defensive end taking some great intercepts whilst Leah Webster and Imogen Banton were dynamic in the shooting circle, Imogen receiving POM. Hinckley pushed on in the final 15 minutes to take the win 33-25.

Hinckley F played Earlsdon Highway E away Saturday in a friendly tough match. Hinckley, with a limited squad due to injuries, took positive play to the courts.

Still working to gel together Hinckley defence had many tips & intercepts against Highways tall shooters but despite their best endeavours found it difficult stopping them scoring.

Hinckley’s attack had several frustratin­g missed opportunit­ies but, linking with centre court, didn’t give up trying. Hinckley lost 48-25 with POM going to Eboni Clarke playing WA & C.
