Approval granted for 190 new homes on neighbouring sites

COUNCILLORS have approved two planning schemes totalling 190 homes for neighbouring sites to the north of Earl Shilton.

Midland Heart filed plans to redevelop Hill Top Farm, with farm buildings to be demolished to make way for an estate of 49 affordable homes and a bungalow, to replace a residence.

Each of the houses will be two storeys and would have two off-street parking spaces, 100 spaces in total.

Vehicles will access the four-acre estate via a new entrance on Leicester Road.

The complex will include 31 twobedroom homes, 18 three-bedroom properties and a two-bedroom bungalow, replacing Ashby House.

As part of the scheme, the developer will contribute some £20,000 to NHS health services in the area and £177,000 towards schools provision.

An outline scheme has also been approved, lodged by Gladman, to develop 23 acres of fields to the immediate north and west of Hill Top Farm.

The development will include vehicle access via a new priority junction on Leicester Road. The estate will include 28 affordable homes and a children’s play area.

The outline application for the 140 homes only covers access for the site, with other elements such as the housing mix to be decided on at a later stage.

Town residents were recently asked for their views on plans for part of the Earl Shilton SUE, which have been submitted by developers Bloor Homes, Jelson Homes and Barwood Land.

In total, the huge development for fields to the south of the village up to the A47 would include 1,500 homes and a new primary school. The school would have a five-acre site including parking and outdoor sports space.

Vehicles would access the development via two new roundabouts on the A47, as well as from Mill Lane, Breach Lane and Astley Road.

An application was filed with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for around two-thirds of the site, including 1,000 homes, the employment space and part of the primary school.

Another application for the other 500 homes and the rest of the development will be lodged in the coming weeks.
