Hinckley Amateur get off to a winning start

HINCKLEY Amateurs got off to a winning start on Saturday with a 42 run win over newly promoted Ibstock Town.

Amateurs batted first with both openers James Axon and Andy Wainscot out for 15, Ed Proctor with a hard hitting 27 and Tosif Ravat 26 took the score to 80-4, before a match winning stand of 83 between Alan York and debutant Ritesh Grandhi took the game away from the Villagers.

Grandhi finished on 31, York going for a big hit in the last over scored a superb 86, Neil Smith gave him good support with 26 and with the tail wagging Amateurs posted a competitiv­e 253-9 off their 45 overs, Harry Taylor pick of the Ibstock bowlers with 4-50.

The visitors got off to a quick start but lost early wickets, Tom Brotherhoo­d with 49 and Chris Trevis with 35 took the score over 200, but once Brotherhoo­d was out the innings subsided, Tosif Ravat taking four wickets and two each for skipper Jamie HarrisEnso­r and Alan York for a well earned win.

Amateur 2nd XI lost narrowly at Ashby Hastings 2nd, Amateur got off to a good start and were 40-1, Sam Gill top scoring with 25, but on a lively pitch collapsed to just 68 all out, Ashby also found the conditions challengin­g and at 57-6 the result could have gone either way, Amateurs took two more wickets but two dropped catches proved crucial , Mick Butterwort­h

and Chetan Parmar on his debut both taking three wickets.

Amateur Ladies first ever 2nd XI game ended in defeat to Long Eaton at Ashby Road. Skipper Julie Webb and Beth Bozonni with 19 each top scored, but the young side struggled to take wickets as they went down by 56 runs, although disappoint­ed everyone enjoyed what was a first game experience for a number of players.
