The village is already facing the prospect of Redrow Homes preparing a scheme to buid 600 homes on 64 acres of farmland

PLANS have been filed to build 85 homes on fields outside Burbage.

Avant Homes has lodged a scheme to develop a 6.5-acre triangular section of greenfield land to the south of Lychgate Lane, near Burbage Cemetery.

The outline proposal filed with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council is solely for the access to the site, off Lychgate Lane, with the housing mix to be set out at a later stage.

Each home would have at least two car parking spaces, with the estate to include 13 homes classed as “affordable”.

Outline plans to build 135 homes on neighbouring fields, off Lutterworth Road, were granted on appeal in October 2021.

The scheme, from Davidsons Developments, was turned down by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council in 2020 over concerns it would spoil views of the countryside.

But the Planning Inspectorate decided that the benefits in additional housing and to the local economy outweighed the harm to the area.

The village is already facing the prospect of many more homes, with Redrow Homes preparing a scheme to build 600 homes on 64 acres of farmland between Bullfurlong Lane and Workhouse Lane.

Residents of the Ambion Way estate were angered to hear of the plans, as one of their roads would be extended to provide one of the access routes into the new estate.

Locals also raised concerns that the village’s services are already overburdened.Redrow said in response that it would consult with the local community before an application is filed.

Developer Barwood Securities has also filed a scheme for 150 homes on fields between Sketchley Lane and the A5. The group previously lodged a scheme for 140 homes and an extension of the Sketchley Meadows Business Park but this was refused over concerns it the development would destroy a green corridor and increase traffic pressure on the A5.
