Earl Shilton net derby victory over Barwell

-

EARL Shilton 1st XI beat old rivals Barwell 1st XI at Keats Lane on Saturday.

Barwell won the toss and elected to field.

Evan Donaldson (5) and James Lester (6) opened the batting for Earl Shilton getting the side off to a good but slow start.

After losing early wickets Rishabh Parekh 19 and Pavan Singh 21 came in to steady things for the home team before some indecisive running from them both resulted in Rishabh being run out.

Pavan was next to go, before James Millinship 29 not out, Zak Potter 32 and Sam Smart 20 not out came in to finish the innings with a six off the last ball by Sam giving momentum to Earl Shilton going into the break, finishing on 168-7 off 45 overs.

Pick of the Barwell bowlers was Nick Hines with 4-37 off 12 overs

The visitors never really got going, with Tom Verow 4-26 off 12 overs and Phil

Crouch 3-24 off 12 overs bowling excellent spells with Barwell 50-7 off 24 overs.

Josh Robins 2-17 off 4.2 overs bowled well with Earl Shilton working hard to get the last wicket, which came from a stunning run out from a direct hit from the 30 yard circle with one stump to aim at by James Millinship.

Barwell were all out for 97 off 33.2 overs.

Earl Shilton 2nd XI lost to Braunstone Stars away at Winstanley school after setting a total of 225 for 9 off 40 overs on a difficult wicket.

Earl Shilton won the toss and decided to bat first. Shiva Chopra and Hemil Patel opened the batting playing positive shots until the wicket popped the ball up to take Shiva’s wicket for 4 runs.

Captain Ethan Hawkins came in at number 3 to steady the ship and hit a fine 99 before being caught on the boundary. During that time Ethan batted well with Hemil 36, Adam Garner 12 and the Earl Shilton vet Alan Gibson 31.

With 10 overs to go and already 190 on the board the team went for it with Hemanth Kokkirala swinging for big runs and finishing up on 16 before losing his wicket. Earl Shilton finished on a solid 226-9.

Earl Shilton took to the field and knew it would be a challenge with the batting they were likely to face and were not wrong.

Braunstone Stars played some big hitting shots from the start due to some poor bowling and fielding by Earl Shilton.

Braunstone Stars hit the winning runs fairly early in the game finishing on 226-6 off 23.3 overs, but Earl Shilton took six wickets which on another day and wicket, the result could easily have been completely different.

Pick of Earl Shilton bowlers was Ethan Hawkins who took 3-32 off 6.2 overs.
