Hinckley Amateur just fall short in high scoring game

ATHERSTONE 1’s started their defence of the Nuneaton Thursday League Division one title with a comfortabl­e home win against Fillongley. Sam Kinson, 44 and Stuart Burrows, 54 helped the hosts to 161-5 off their 16 overs. Jonathon Lock did pick up three wickets for the visitors. Despite 55 not out from Aaron Blackmore, Fillongley ended up 40 short of their target. Nuneaton 1’s kicked off with a win on the road at Bulkington 1’s. Giles Clements and Aaron Carvell led the way with 36 and 41. Carvell was eventually caught by his brother, Liam as the visitors posted 118-3. Only Thomas Noon with 24 made any impact for the home side as they finished well short on 79-5 with the wickets shared around.

In a high scoring game at Ashby Road, Bedworth 1’s smashed 183-5 off their 16 overs. Manbit Johal led the way with 41 before Max Page really turned the burners on with 64 off 27 balls. Hinckley Amateur made a valiant attempt to reach the target helped by 46 from Alan York and 62 off 28 balls from Ritesh Grandhi but ended up 14 short of the visitor’s total.

In Division 2 last year’s runners up, Atherstone 2’s slipped to defeat at Stockingfo­rd Haunchwood. Only captain Manny Alcock managed double figure, scoring 25 as the Adders posted a modest total of 79-8. The home side cruised home with 14 balls to spare. Neil Streeting top scored with 26. Reigning Champions Bedworth 2’s made short shrift of newly promoted Griff and Coton at the Welfare Park. Gavin Page scored 38 in Griff’s total of 84-7. Young Player of the year for 2021 Ben Jones carried on where he left off with 3-8 off his 4 overs. Lakshmi Pathanjale­eswaran with 29 not out and captain, Omar Bahar, 51no saw the home side to victory without losing a wicket.

The other newly promoted team, Collycroft made the trip to Barwel ones and 65 from Shaun Marsh and 38 from Gage Griffiths helped them to what looked like a competitiv­e total of 135-6. Adam Stapleford­Jones had other ideas though as he hit 82. He eventually fell but opening partner, George Baker saw them home with 44 not out.

The only match in Division 3 at Twycross was another high scoring one. Visitors, Attleborou­gh amassed 181-1 off their 16. Opener Jamie Phillips got them off to a great start with 35 and then Adam Russell top scored with 75 ably assisted by Gary Thompson who smashed 61 off 24 balls. In reply Twycross were always in the hunt but despite 63 from Charlie Beestone and 49 from Ben Machin Jnr they ended up 15 short for the loss of 6 wickets. Adam Russell rounding off an excellent night with 3-35.
