Cup competitio­ns reach the last four

WITH the Table Tennis League season now over, attention turns to the various cup competitio­ns.

In the Dry Logic Cup there were some very close games. Goons 2 met X-Cat 3 and in the closest of matches Goons 2 ran out winners by 5 sets to 4.

No fewer than four sets went to five games, with Alan Crowson (Goons 2) featuring in two of them. In set two Crowson and Simon Gresty (X-Cat 3) fought out an epic game with the X-Cat man running out as winner 10-12, 12-10, 6-11, 11-7, 7-11.

Goons led 4 sets to 3 and in the eight game Steve Burrage (Goons2) clashed with Jeff Oddy (X-Cat 3) in another five-game set, Oddy claiming the victory 11-7 in the fifth to draw X-Cat 3 level with Goons 2.

The final game saw Crowson (Goons) take on Kevin Edwards (X-Cat 3), with all to play for. They did not disappoint in another close five game set Crowson claiming victory and the win 11-4, 6-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6.

The other Dry logic game between Hit and Hope B and Market Bosworth followed a similar pattern to the other quarter-final with no team being more that one set in from at any time. Bosworth’s Pete Muir(MB) was the player of the match winning his three, but it was left to team-mate Darren Knappet (MB) to secure the victory defeating Andy Holmes (Hit and Hope).

In the Holt Trophy quarter finals X-Cat 1 proved too strong for G Ward A winning by 5 sets to 1.

Hit & Hope 1 defeated X-Cat 2 by 5 sets to 2. Player of the match being Bryan Moylen who won all his games. Goons 1 took the other match against Mira by 5 sets to 4 to secure their semi-final place.

The semi-final draws to be [played at the George Ward Centre on Thursday May 5 from 7pm, are as follows: Dry Logic Cup: X-Cat 4 v Market Bosworth, Goons 2 v G Ward C.

Holt Trophy: G Ward B v Goons 1, X-Cat 1 v Hit and Hope A.
