Message to council as parents and children unite for road crossing safety plea
HINCKLEY pupils have tied green ribbons to their school fence to highlight an ongoing campaign calling for a safer permanent crossing in London Road.
On Friday, April 29, children from St Peter’s School tied the ribbons to the fence to represent their voices, urging the county council to take action.
As well as St Peter’s School pupils, the crossing point is used by pupils of Hinckley Parks Primary and Hinckley Academy, incorporating John Cleveland College.
Campaign participant Joanne Thompson said: “Safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone, and now is the time to heed this call.
“We need to act now to prevent unnecessary harm to our children. We who experience anxiety every morning and afternoon when crossing this road are questioning the validity of the road traffic statistics and surveys.
“Surely, common sense should prevail, and the wellbeing of all should be at the forefront of decisions taken by our county council? The people who use this crossing deserve to be heard.”
The campaigners said parents have already had near misses in front of the school, and it only takes one car and one child for a tragic road collision to occur.
Joanne said: “Help us minimise the likelihood of this happening.
‘”Every voice counts, no matter how small. Please don’t let our children’s voices be drowned out! “Support the children in making our community a safer place to live by installing a safer permanent crossing outside the school.”
