Earl Shilton clinch win at Loughborough Carillon

-

EARL Shilton Town 1st XI won away at Loughborough Carillon 1st XI on Saturday.

Loughborough won the toss and elected to field. Earl Shilton started their innings on a wicket that was tough to bat on at the start.

Openers James Lester 19 and Evan Donaldson 5 worked hard to see off the new ball before both wickets fell.

A good solid partnership from Rishabh Parekh 39 and Phil Crouch with some big hitting from Crouch, changed the momentum of the innings.

Crouch’s departure caused a slight collapse, bringing in James Millinship who made a fine 36 of 50 balls, along with Smart 15 and Aryan Pandita 5 to finish the innings on 175-8 off 45 overs.

Loughborough started the innings with intent but lost wickets at regular points throughout, with Tom Verow 2-41 off 8 overs and Phil Crouch 2-32 off 12 overs.

Aryan Pandita on his debut took a wicket with his third ball and finished with 1-17 off 7 overs.

Rishabh Parekh on a turning wicket claimed 2-32 off 9.3 overs.

Captain Sam Smart finished with 2-26 off six overs leading his side to an excellent win, finally bowling Loughborough all out for 146.

Sam Smart said after the game: “The whole side contributed to an excellent result today and it’s great to see both the key players and the new players performing well when it matters.”

Earl Shilton 2nd XI lost to Newtown Linford 3rd XI at home after a fine run chase.

Earl Shilton won the toss and elected to field, knowing it would be a tough battle against a good Newtown batting side.

Newtown Linford started slowly on a green wicket with some bounce, but gradually began to build up their total with big hitting shots towards the 20 over mark.

Zak Potter made a detrimental impact to the Newtown batting taking 3 for 59 off 10 overs, with Newtown Linford hitting the bulk of their runs late in the game.

Newton finished on 251-4 off 40 overs.

Earl Shilton took to the field with Giles Holmes returning to the club after a brief spell at Hinckley, alongside Hemil Patel.

Hemil started well playing some textbook shot, until losing his wicket to a ball that ‘popped up’ to finish on six runs.

Captain Ethan Hawkins coming in at number 3 reached 43 runs, before being caught at mid-off, after a good partnership with Giles Holmes who finished on a solid 58.

Zak Potter coming in at number 4 made an excellent 72 runs before he was unfortunately run out.

Some spectacular cameos were on show towards the end of the run chase with Dan Williams 11, and Alan Gibson running hard and making 8.

Needing 19 off the last over, the last few batters tried swinging hard but to no avail and Earl Shilton finished on 237 all out after a fine run chase.

Ethan Hawkins said after the game: “A cooler day, a larger boundary and the outcome could have been significantly different.

“Overall, a worthwhile performance and great effort all round with lots of positives to take forward.”
