Hinckley Amateurs back to winning ways
HINCKLEY Amateurs got back to winning ways with a 45 run win over Enderby.
Andy Wainscot with a quickfire 21 and James Axon 26 got the Amateurs off to a good start, Tosif Ravat top scoring with 57, Ed Proctor 33, Ritesh Grandhi 21, Neil Smith 20 Ash Harrison 20 and skipper Jamie Harris-Ensor with 19, as all the batsmen contributed to a competitive 253-9, with Miles Hickman taking 5 wickets for the visitors.
Some superb catches got Enderby in some trouble at 109-5, but Neal Mackay with 39 caused concern in the Amateur ranks, but losing wickets at regular intervals caused their demise as the they finished on 204, again all the bowlers and top class fielding contributed, James Axon with 3, Ritesh Grandhi 2, and one each for Ash Harrison, Alan York and Jamie Harris - Ensor, in a quality all round performance.
Amateur 2nds got their first victory of the season in a tight game at Twycross. Amateurs restricted the home side to 154 with Waheed Raza Jamil taking 4 wickets, 2 each for Chetan Parmar, and Krishna Godhaniya and 1 each for Mick Butterworth and Matt Smith.
Jamil then top scored with 44 to earn man of the match. After losing the 8th and 9th wicket at 138, the Amateurs were in trouble, but in an exciting finish the experienced tailenders Smith and Butterworth scrambled the runs to get over the line by one wicket.
Amateur 3rds’ first game of the season ended in defeat, visitors Charnwood old boys hit 192-8 off their 40 overs, Chaminda taking 4 wickets, skipper Dan Hall top scored with 29, Aaron Hicklin gave him good support with 25 but the rest of the batsmen struggled as they went down by 62 runs.
Sunday saw both the ladies teams in action, the 1st XI team took on Sileby at Ashby Road, restricting the visitors to 74 off their 16 overs, with Helen Blencoe taking 2 wickets, 1 each for Isabelle Nest Coleman, Kate Halfpenny and Julie Webb, Blencoe and Webb top scored in the Amateurs innings as they went down by just two runs.
In the second game Amateurs beat Ockbrook and Borrowash, the visitors reaching 84-5, with Blencoe leading the way again with 3 wickets. Amateurs lost just 2 wickets in reply to earn the first win in their first season of a higher league
Amateurs 2nd team lost to Countesthorpe by 58 runs with skipper Emily Lenton top scoring with 15, they then went down to Bharat by 31 runs, Lenton again top scoring with 37. Disappointing results for the inexperienced squad but it was an encouraging performances in their first season.
