X-Cat Club dominates in semi finals of Team Challenge and the Holt Trophy

THE Hinckley Table Tennis Trophies and Cup semi-finals all took place last week and the X-Cat Club have dominated most of the competitio­ns.

In the Team Challenge X-Cat 1 overcame G Ward B by 8 sets to 1 to reach the final. Their opponents will be close rivals Goons 1 who saw off X-Cat2 9-0..

In the Dry Logic semi-finals G Ward C took on Goons 2 and in a tight match Goons 2 claimed their place in the final with a 6-3 victory. No player was unbeaten, for Goons all three players, A Crowson, P Wood and S Burrage won two sets apiece, whist Rob Webster did the same for G Ward. A special mention for Jackie Flavell who defeated the vastly experience­d Crowson in a thrilling five game set.

The other semi-final saw market Bosworth proceed to the final by virtue of a walkover after X-Cat 4 conceded as they were unable to field a team

In the Holt trophy it was the big guns who won through to the final. X-Cat 1 the newly crowned Division 1 champions saw off Hit and Hope A 5-0. In the other semi-final Goons 1 proved too strong for G Ward B running out 6-1 winners.

The Finals will all be played this week

Team Challenge X-Cat 1 v Goons 1 at Goons was played on Monday (May 9).

Dry Logic – Goons 2 v Market Bosworth at G Ward Centre on Thursday (May 12) at 7pm

Holt Trophy – X-Cat 1 v Goons 1 at G Ward Centre Thursday (May 12) at 7pm.

The results of the Senior Individual events, much restricted this season due to the loss of Caterpilla­r as a venue saw Rhys Emery (X-Cat) collect the Open Singles title when he beat Matt Rayner (X-Cat) in the final.

The Open Doubles saw X-Cat’s Pete Jamison and M Rayner defeat club mates Emery and Alex Mason. In the veteran’s event Mason (X-Cat) defeated G Ward’s Russ Pettitt to claim the title.
