Burbage Old Boys clinch their promotion to Premier league

BURBAGE Old Boys secured promotion to the Premier League with a comfortable win over Loughborough FC.
Burbage needed a win and they went about it in a business-like fashion but they met some stiff opposition from a spirited Luffs team.
Burbage proved to be an experienced side with a direct approach to the game and put the Loughborough side under some early pressure and keeper Raj Palmer had to make a couple of acrobatic saves.
As the game progressed
Loughborough found their way and Wictor Ako found some space down the left flank and delivered some telling crosses while Agbor Sobeh forced a safe from the Burbage keeper Liam Bate.
After half an hour the Luffs were beginning to look the better side and it was against the run of play that Andrei Graur opened the scoring for the visitors.
Loughborough responded well with some impressive outbreaks of football and Callum Gilchrist had a header saved while Sobeh lost his marked and shot just over the bar.
For most of the game Burbage preferred the long ball approach but Burbage’s Ross Selby went on a mazy run only to the smothered out in the penalty area by defender Dan Arnold who should register as the man of the match.
The second half saw a couple of mishaps for the Loughborough side, keeper Palmer pushed a shot onto the post but the rebound fell kindly for Kai Biggs-Finney and he tapped it in from close range to make it 2-0.
With a two-goal lead Burbage closed ranks with their promotion looking in the bag but the young Luffs team ran them to the end caught only on the break by Sam Young to make it three.
The fourth goal was a bit unfortunate as the Luffs defender headed back to his keeper who slipped on the turn and the ball bounced over his head.
