HOUSEHOLDERS are being invited to take part in a new scheme offering the chance to save cash on solar panels.

People who sign up for the new Solar Together Leicestershire scheme will be entered into an auction where suppliers compete by offering the lowest rate for solar panel installation. The more people registered, the lower the price could be.

Signing up is free for residents and is open now at the website below.

Working with iChoosr, Solar Together provides those signed up with a free, no obligation offer from the successful energy supplier.

A personal recommendation will be emailed out with information on the winning solar panel installer, the proposed system, costs, and savings ready for residents to make their choice.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council is working towards being carbon neutral by 2030.

For Solar Together Leicestershire, it is working in partnership with Charnwood, Melton and Oadby and Wigston borough councils, Harborough, Blaby and North West Leicestershire district council councils and Leicestershire County Council.

Installing solar panels on homes can reduce carbon emissions by generating clean electricity and save homeowners money on energy costs. The scheme also includes solar panels with optional battery storage and electric vehicle charging points as well as retrofit battery storage for residents who already have solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate, as well as increase their independence from the grid.

Councillor Martin Cartwright, the borough council’s executive member for climate change said: “Our target is to be carbon net zero by 2050, and to achieve this we all need to make changes and play our part.

“We’re delighted to join with Solar Together and be part of an initiative giving residents the opportunity to reduce their energy costs and support our green agenda.

“It’s the perfect time to help households from all across the county take steps towards greater energy independence by working alongside other authorities on this scheme.”

Registration closes on Tuesday, June 14, with the selection revealed from Monday, July 4 onwards.
