Jubilee events around borough

CELEBRATIO­NS will be taking place next month to mark the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

The Platinum Jubilee will be marked with a four-day bank holiday weekend of events, from June 2 to 5.

Here are some of the events happening around Leicesters­hire, from tea parties and beacon lighting ceremonies to concerts and children’s activities.

THURSDAY, JUNE 2 Proms in the Park, Hollycroft Park, Hinckley

An evening concert with Leicester’s Bardi Wind Orchestra and soloists Jenny Saunders and David Morris.

Music will range from Nessun Dorma to We’ll Meet Again, the Beatles to Disney movie scores, with a Last Night of the Proms selection.

Gates open at 5pm, the show commences at 6pm and finishes at 8.30pm.

Picnics are welcome. The event is free to attend and no booking is necessary. However, capacity is limited in the auditorium and will be on a first come, first served basis.

Parking for blue badge holders only will be available at the park.

Beacon Lighting, Argents Mead, Hinckley

Beacons will be lit across the UK. The event at Argents Mead will take place from 9.15pm until 10pm.

Music in the Mead, Argents Mead, Hinckley

From 1pm to 3pm. Salute to the 1940s will feature a cast of six performing tributes to Vera Lynn, George Formby, Gracie Fields and others. Platinum Jubilee Party Hercules Revived, Sutton Cheney

From 1pm to 3pm. The Emperors of Rhythm with 1950s songs including hits by Tommy Steel and Billy

Fury.

SUNDAY, JUNE 5 Street Party Day, Hinckley

Residents are encouraged to enjoy their lunch in one of the town parks.
