Let battle recommence... Medieval festival is back after two-year break

TICKETS for the 2022 Bosworth Medieval Festival are now on sale as the action-packed weekend returns with two days of entertainm­ent for the whole family.

The event makes a welcome return in August after a two-year, Covid-enforced lay-off.

The two-day event – which attracts thousands of visitors, reenactors and traders – will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 20-21 at the Leicesters­hire County Council-run Bosworth Battlefiel­d Heritage Centre, near Sutton Cheney.

Tickets are valid for the whole weekend, which means visitors can come on either or both days for no extra cost.

Once through the gates, all events except author talks are free of charge.

The family friendly festival features battle reenactmen­ts by the Wars of the Roses Federation, including a 20-minute recreation of the Battle of Bosworth on both afternoons.

There will also be living history encampment­s to explore, archery, cannon fire demonstrat­ions, medieval falconry demonstrat­ions, musicians, the King’s Executione­r, Knight School, a storytelle­r, guided tours, author talks, a medieval craft market, medieval cooking demonstrat­ions and food tasting, hands-on games and competitio­ns for children, as well as entry to the award-winning exhibition and free parking.

Destrier’s horsemen and women return with their mounted skill at arms and cavalry display and the fascinatin­g Death of Richard III presentati­on. They will also play a major role in the Battle of Bosworth re-enactments, representi­ng Richard III and his rival Henry Tudor and their standard bearers on the battlefiel­d.

The weekend’s full programme is still being confirmed and more attraction­s will be added in the coming weeks to ensure Bosworth Medieval Festi- val returns with a bang this year.

Councillor Christine Radford, county council cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts, said: “We’re delighted to be able to welcome Bosworth Medieval Festival back to our events calendar in August after two years without it.

“It is a great event with lots of activities for all the family, which attracts people from all over the UK and further afield and is always one of the highlights of the summer.

“Leicesters­hire has a rich and proud heritage to showcase and the Bosworth Medieval Festival does just that, as well as commemorat­ing the Battle of Bosworth.

“The tickets represent great value for money, as they allow visitors the chance to spend the whole weekend taking in the medieval sights, sounds and experience­s. It will be a great event for residents and visitors alike.”

Prices are £20 for adults £10 for children (underthree­s free) and £17 for concession­s, with accompanyi­ng carer admitted free.

Family tickets cost £26 (one and one); £45; (two and one) and £54 (two and two).

There are no booking fees and special group
