-

EX PLAYERS, club officials, young and old turned out to ensure Earl Shilton Town 1st XI and 2nd XI were able to fulfil their fixtures on Saturday due to the majority of players attending captain Sam Smart’s wedding.

The 1st XI lost at home to Kirby Muxloe 1st XI with Kirby Muxloe winning the toss and batting first and reaching a total of 363-5 off 45 overs.

The bowlers did their best to contain the big total with Aryan Pandita 2-94 off 11 overs, Rishabh Parekh 2-43 off 7 overs and Charley Dickerson 1-65 off 8 overs.

Earl Shilton took to the field and pick of the batsman was Rishabh Parekh 59 and Aryan Pandita 36 but were all out for 141 off 34.3 overs.

The 2nd XI lost away to Maher 3rd XI.

Maher batted first reaching a total of 288-8 off 40 overs.

Club veteran now 70 years of age Howard Verow bowled well, along with the return of Luke Smith who had not bowled for four years, but once he settled into his rhythm bowled well as though he had never been away, taking 2-53 off 10 overs.

Dan Williams 3-42 off 7 overs, Ryan Patel 1-43 off 5 overs and Reanan Patel 1-38 off 3 overs, Howard Verow 1-30 off 5 overs all contributed well to put in a fine bowling performance and were unlucky not to take more wickets.

Earl Shilton set off with a steady start with several players scoring runs and although it was a big challenge gave a good account of themselves reaching 187 before finally being bowled out after 34.2 overs.

Pick of the batsman were Captain for the day Hamil Patel 40, Ben Vaughan 24, Mirza Junek 28 and Luke Smith 24.

Chairman Mick Coe who also turned out for the 2nd team said: “Our club is very proud of everyone who turned out on Saturday knowing that all points gained were a real bonus, and that not fulfilling our fixtures would have resulted in the league fining the club and a massive loss of points.

“Some of us are a bit sore after the game, not being as young as we once were, but can all be proud of the performances all round.”
