Cadent graduates enjoy a gas with town charity users and its volunteers
TRAINEES on Cadent’s graduate programme recently visited Hinckley’s homelessness charity Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland
National gas distribution firm Cadent, which has its headquarters in the town, has selected Emmaus as its charity partner and over the next two years teams across Cadent will work closely with the charity to support those experiencing homelessness through fundraising, volunteering, and knowledge sharing.
The group of 16 Cadent visitors enjoyed a tour around the Emmaus Emporium charity shop on Stockwell Head, and brought in some of their own unwanted items to be resold in store.
They also had an opportunity to speak with Leigh, one of the people being supported by the charity, to learn about his homelessness experience and how Emmaus has helped.
Cadent business graduate Freddie Bowlby said: “We’re grateful to everyone at Emmaus Leicestershire and Rutland for welcoming us into their community.
“It was great to see the amazing work that goes on, meet some of the people being supported and hear Leigh’s story of how Emmaus has helped him.
“I hope our donations can play a small part in helping raise funds for the charity and I can’t wait to get involved with some more volunteering with our new charity partner.”
Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland supports 16 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. The charity provides a safe home for as long someone needs it, plus daily support, meaningful work, funded training, and the opportunity to gain new skills.
The Emporium shop raises vital funds, as well as offering work experience and a sense of purpose to those being supported.
Speaking about the visit, Dawn
Wright, director of Emmaus, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary later this year, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Cadent grads and give them to chance to
see first-hand, what our charity does. Cadent’s support means a lot, and we’re so pleased that in addition to fundraising over the next two years, many of the visitors expressed an interest in volunteering for us in future.”
