Stan Pitt Community Award 2022

Parish recognises and honours resident who stands out from the crowd.

This year we had 3 nominations, all of them are an absolute credit to the parish.

We had 2 winners. Our winners were Sandra Stafford, for the outstanding support she gives to the elderly of the village, her food bank collections and work to support the village hall together with Chris Whitby and Eleanor Graff-Baker, who were nominated as a couple, for all the work they do for Peckleton Church and village hall, village events, the newsletter and other voluntary roles around the village. They are pictured right with our other finalist Ann Lloyd, nominated for her sterling work as a stalwart of the Methodist Chapel, helping to run it, hosting events and supporting her neighbours.

The Stan Pitt Community Award is an annual event to recognise and publicly thank those who have voluntarily improved the quality of life within the villages of Kirkby Mallory, Peckleton and Stapleton. Each of the community’s benefit from those who put so much effort in to local groups and activities and the Parish Council wants to acknowledge and support their contributions.

The award was presented at the Parish’s Annual Meeting on 28th April.

Annual Parish Meeting

The annual Parish Meeting took place on Thursday 28 th April. The chairman’s report can be found on our website www.peckletonpc.org. uk.

Amongst items raised by parishioners were biodiversity in the three villages and whether the Parish Council can encourage more and perhaps set up a register. The poor condition of the road surface on Dadlington Lane, Stapleton, seeding in the three villages, the monitoring of planning applications. The councillors present agreed to take requests to the Council for consideration.

Traffic Calming

We have continued to liaise with the County Council over traffic issues in the 3 villages. They have carried out some surveys and plan to do more over the coming weeks to establish what and where the problems are.

We have already been assured that new signage and road markings will be provided in Peckleton Common and at the junction of Barwell Lane in Kirkby Mallory.

We have approved the provision of Vehicle Activated Signs for Peckleton and we are in the process of identifying the best locations in accordance with LCC criteria.

There are plans to provide new signage and a vehicle activated sign in Stapleton and we will liaise with the village and LCC over this in the coming weeks. For Kirkby Mallory we await the outcome of a comprehensive set of traffic surveys which will take place during May.

The Parish Council has set aside funding towards Vehicle Activated Signs and our County Councillor has also earmarked part of his Members Fund towards these.

Vacancies

The parish council has 6 seats, 2 for each of the 3 villages (wards) but at the moment only 4 councillors. Stapleton and Kirkby Mallory are under-represented and we would welcome applications from eligible parishioners.

Jubilee Events

We are aware of Jubilee Events taking place in all 3 of our villages and the parish council has been pleased to provide grants towards them. The parish beacon will be lit as part of Stapleton’s event.
