Academy’s students finally have their eyes on the prize
STUDENTS at St Martin’s Catholic Academy in Stoke Golding have been catching up with their prize giving ceremonies delayed by the coronavirus.
Annually is how Saint Martin’s Catholic Academy likes to celebrate the achievements of their year 11 students. However, due to the pandemic some students missed out on this much anticipated event but in true St Martin’s style, nothing will stop them celebrating success.
Class of 2020
It seems so long ago that the Class of 2020 left Saint Martin’s, they missed out on so much during their final year in high school, that the school couldn’t let another event pass them by without celebration, so earlier this year they invited the prize winners from the class of 2020 to join them in school to collect their awards.
Almost all of the ex-students invited to collect a prize attended, some bringing parents and friends to share in their success. They chatted over tea and cake and it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and lovely to hear tales of their college experiences.
Class of 2021
And a month later saw the annual GCSE Presentation and Prize Giving Evening return for the Class of 2021.
They were able to invite the entire cohort and their family and friends into school to see each student make their way onto the stage to collect their certificates and awards.
They had a very special guest join them this year – rugby union legend and former Saint Martin’s pupil, Dean Richards.
It was a pleasure to listen to him recount stories of Sister Louis during his time at Saint Martin’s.
He was delighted when they could show his name written in the original paper registers from 1974.
The school expressed their thanks to Dean by presenting him with an engraved gift, the plaque read “Forever part of the Saint Martin’s family”, a sentiment that is expressed to every one of the students, past and present.
