DESFORD Lawn Tennis club is eager to recruit some new players and is issuing an invite to young and old to join its ranks.

Junior and adult coaching is available at the Peckleton Lane club, as well as social and competitive tennis and rackets can be provided.

The club was first established in 2008 with two gravel courts, but now has three courts, all resurfaced, floodlights and a brick built clubhouse, opened by Leicestershire Tennis Pro, Mark Cox in 2015.

It offers an extensive range of sessions for all ages, abilities and backgrounds, with sessions supported through strong connections with local businesses and members volunteering.

Specific sessions include a group for older players with hearing and visual impairment, those with new hips and knees, a group for those with learning disabilities, tournaments for players on the autism spectrum from local schools, and a group for players and their families who are affected by cancer.

Competitively the club has two ladies teams, three men’s teams and two mixed teams in the Leicetershire Leagues and junior teams from Mini Orange (7+ yrs) Mini Green (9+yrs) which are mixed, U12, U14, U16 and U18 boys and U14 girls.

Club members Sally, Eve and Charlie Coope said: “It’s a fantastic club that we love being a part of - friendly, inclusive and affordable, quickly spring to mind. I joined after my children started playing, having never picked up a tennis racket before and was made to feel very welcome.

“Fast forward over 10 years later and we are still playing socially and also competitively. The club has gone from strength to strength, but it’s nurturing core values have remained the same. I’m proud to be a member of such a great club and have made some lovely friends along the way.”

A club spokesman said: “We are a friendly and inclusive club, offering tennis for children and adults, of all ages and abilities. There is something for everyone, come and say hello at one of our sessions.”

• Saturday mini tennis coaching sessions, run at 9am for 5+, 10am for 7+ and 11am for 9+. Senior club sessions are on Tuesdays 6pm-7pm for Beginners, 7pm-8pm for Improvers, and Saturday 2pm-3pm for Beginners, 3pm-4pm for Improvers.
