Duo to perform lunchtime concert

-

The current season of lunchtime concerts at a town centre church continues next week with two local musicians taking centre stage.

Chanson Swing is a duo featuring the vocal talents of Sophie-Jayne Holder along with her husband Ben Holder on piano. However Ben is best known for his inimitable jazz violin playing and the concert will include some tunes with him on the violin, accompanying himself on piano with the aid of technology!

Ben is one of the most acclaimed and exciting jazz violinists in the UK. His classical studies began at the age of six and were complimented by training at the Birmingham Conservatoire. An introduction to jazz came in his early teens leading Ben to truly find his place as a musician.

Ben’s various awards bear testimony to these abilities. Often playing across the UK, Europe and further afield, he is a first-call jazz violinist and pianist for many of the country’s top venues, line-ups and studios.

Sophie-Jayne has always had an equal passion for music and languages, speaking fluent

English, French and German and having completed classical flute training.

This musicality and linguistic ability come together wonderfully on stage where Sophie is able to combine both of her passions, singing beautiful French, Spanish and English jazz and swing.

Their lunchtime concert for

SMARTS (St. Mary’s Arts) is on Wednesday 10th April at St. Mary’s Church, Hinckley starting at 1pm lasting about 50 minutes.

The programme will blend French Chansons from the repertoire of Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet and Yves Montand with a nod to Spanish Cancion from Consuelo Velasquez. Also included will be jazz standards from the likes of George Gershwin, Etta James (via Harry Warren) and perhaps even an easylistening version of a couple of 21st century numbers.

Admission on the door is £4.50 for adults and £1 for children and students.

Refreshments are available in the church coffee bar before the concert.

There is also an opportunity to enjoy an English Afternoon Tea before the SMARTS concerts, organised by the church secretary. These must be booked in advance no later than the Monday morning before the concert by calling Kerrie on 01455 234241 when full details will be given.
