Ap­pren­tices pay care­ful at­ten­tion to a Royal Air Force of­fi­cer as he ex­plains flight pro­ce­dure aboard a Vick­ers-armstrong Wellington, or ‘The Fly­ing Class­room’. Af­ter the out­break of the war, RAF ap­pren­tice­ship cour­ses were short­ened, and in­ten­si­fied, in or­der to max­imise the num­ber of pi­lots and air­man re­cruited into front line ser­vice.
