A large Bri­tish fleet sails into the Baltic Sea and at­tacks Rus­sian tar­gets on the Fin­nish coast, in­clud­ing the fortress of Bomarsund. 12,000 Bri­tish and French troops are landed as the war­ships sub­ject Bomarsund to mas­sive bom­bard­ments. The Rus­sian com­man­der ca­pit­u­lates and the fortress is de­mol­ished.
