BATTLE OF BOMARSUND

A large British fleet sails into the Baltic Sea and attacks Russian targets on the Finnish coast, including the fortress of Bomarsund. 12,000 British and French troops are landed as the warships subject Bomarsund to massive bombardmen­ts. The Russian commander capitulate­s and the fortress is demolished.
