The Rus­sian is­land fortress of Suomenlinn­a out­side Helsinki is at­tacked by an An­glo-french fleet of 77 ships. An ex­ten­sive bom­bard­ment en­sues, which ig­nites sev­eral of the fortress’s gun­pow­der mag­a­zines. How­ever, most of the de­fences re­main in­tact. The Al­lied fleet with­draws af­ter fail­ing to land troops at Helsinki.
