THE BUILD
Dick and Sue were keen to futureproof their home and to consider their long-term running costs. As such, they chose to invest in the fabric of the building, and they also opted for renewable technology in abundance. “We have solar [photovoltaic] panels on the roof, rainwater harvesting, an air source heat pump, MVHR system, and our insulation is specced way above Building Regs requirements,” says Dick. The doors are also wide enough for wheelchair access and the cloakroom has space to fit a lift shaft if needed.
“The encapsulation system [Oakwrights’wrightwall system] was prefabricated to the frame in our Herefordshire workshops to ensure a dry shell, before being transported to their site and erected by our highly skilled teams in five days,” says Lee Wilson of Oakwrights. “Following this, it took six weeks for the installation and sealing of the wall and roof panels, so all in all, around two months was the time taken to reach a watertight stage.”
