lGLAZED TILES

Measuring 750mm x 750mm, these large format porcelain tiles are ideal for creating a seamless flow in contemporary, open-plan spaces. The Grigio finish, pictured here, features a glazed finish. Priced at £39.99/ m2 from Gemini at CTD Tiles.

VINYL This budget-friendly material gives the opportunity to introduce a burst of colour. Available in a plethora of hues and patterns, there’s a style to suit pretty much every scheme. Waterproof and slip-resistant, this surface is more forgiving in case younger residents take a tumble. It repels dirt and high quality products come with a stain-resistant wear layer, too. “It’s easy to clean,” says Bill Tuckey, managing director at The Colour Flooring Company. “All you need to do is give it a quick going over with a mop or a damp cloth and soapy water.”

Vinyl works with UFH however, it should only be partnered with systems that are embedded in screed, rather than electric matbased setups. If installed and maintained properly, expect it to offer a service life between 10 and 20 years.

Prices can be as low as £13/m2, but for higher quality products expect to pay upwards of £25/m2.

lENGINEERED WOOD

If you’re looking to introduce character, few materials match the timeless appeal of wood. Engineered products offer a robust solution for the kitchen and will stand up to the humidity of the environment. A range of styles is available, from rustic knotty products to herringbone and chevron designs.

In terms of finishes, you can choose from natural oiled, UV oiled and lacquered. Both oil finishes give a matt, natural look and provide a surface that’s easy to look after. “Natural oiled finishes offer long-lasting protection with the correct maintenance,” says Jenna Kane from Kersaint Cobb. “UV oiled finishes are easy to care for, too, but professional repair will be required if needed.”

The chance to incorporate a bold pattern into your kitchen is one of the main beauties of a vinyl floor. Supplied by Lifestyle Floors, the Lincoln Belmont variation is guaranteed to make a statement. Available in widths of 2m, 3m and 4m, it is priced at £15.49/m2, representing one of the most budget-friendly choices of the bunch.
