Keeping up tradition

-

I have bought and enjoyed H&A since the very beginning. Having a keen interest in old buildings and antiques, it is the perfect magazine for me. For the past 20 years, I have been restoring a 16th- century house in Su olk, using traditional methods such as wattle and daub and lime plaster. It’s been tough – physically hard work that has taken its toll on my back – but there have been rewards, too: finding a sundial dated 1652 buried in the hall floor; entertaining the Prince of Wales in a traditionally built extension; and receiving an award from the Queen for my work with lime. Sadly, the time has come to move on, and the house will be put on the market in the next few months. But I will always have such wonderful memories, and my next home will certainly still be a period one. So I will always need H&A – it’s the perfect mix of homes, interiors and lovely old treasures. Every home should have one! PAULA SUNSHINE, SUFFOLK
