Les Couilles du Chien
The west London antiques supplier, known for its unexpected mix, has found a natural home in the East Gallery at Liberty
WHO Les Couilles du Chien started life in the 1990s on west London’s Golborne Road when interior designer Jerome Dodd installed a pop-up shop in his studio to air the large collection of items he’d amassed. With a background in retail interior design, Dodd enjoys unearthing new and unusual items from around the world, reflecting the changing trends in interior design. The shop is still there and Les Couilles du Chien is now a beacon for interior and set designers searching for a prized piece. WHAT These days, there’s also a base in Marylebone and, since January, a pop-up shop on the fourth floor of department store Liberty London. All the shops share the same spirit, featuring an unpredictable mix of antiques and curiosities. ‘ When you come in, you never know what you’re going to find,’ reveals Jerome. ‘I want to challenge people and show them pieces they would never have thought of.’ FIND In addition to antique furniture, lighting and mirrors, objects from the
natural world abound, including shells, petrified wood and taxidermy. ‘ You’ll find things from the 18th through to the 20th centuries,’ explains Jerome. ‘ It’s not about the period or the style, it’s about the pieces.’ BUY Look out for the intriguing ceramic mushrooms, inspired by models of species commonly found in French pharmacies that were used to identify woodland funghi.
