Stepping out of a comfortable bed onto soft flooring enhances the sense of luxury in your bedroom. Choose carpets or rugs that feel good to the touch

Carpet is an excellent choice for bedroom floors, providing warmth, comfort and an extra layer of insulation against drafts. ‘ Saxony carpet has a deep, soft pile that feels especially good under bare feet,’ says Jemma Dayman, assistant buyer at Carpetright. ‘Alternatively, velvet pile has a rich texture and a luxurious feel.’ Because bedroom floors receive less wear, you can economise by choosing a lighter-weight carpet than you would in busier areas of your home. If you prefer wood or tiled floors, place rugs or runners at the sides of the bed to give a soft surface where needed. For sheer indulgence, natural sheepskin is hard to beat.
