-

Most were painted in blue and white, or manganese (purple) and white, although polychrome was also used for grander decorative schemes. A vast array of subjects feature including !gures, animals, decorative motifs, landscapes, ships and soldiers. Among the most desirable tiles for today’s collectors are those depicting decorative biblical scenes: Noah’s Ark, The Flood, Daniel in the Lions’ Den and Adam and Eve are especially sought after. Landscape scenes are generally less desirable than tiles with a narrative content. Panel pictures of four or more tiles were also popular and there are several examples in Hauteville. Adapted from prints they too are found in blue, manganese or polychrome and typically feature heraldic motifs, "oral designs, birds, !gurative subjects, landscapes and seascapes. The best are sometimes signed and dated.
