2 MIRROR, MIRROR

Estimate: £3,000–£5,000

-

This breathtaking early George III giltwood wall mirror in the manner of John Linnell understandably fetched over its high estimate when it went on sale at Woolley & Wallis in Salisbury recently. The later oval glass plate is set within a carved leaf and !ower frame with a basket of fruit at the top. The base is made up of ‘C’ scrolls and !owers. Despite their charming frames, antique mirrors can sometimes suffer from foxing, caused by age-related deterioration, or fogging, caused by moisture behind the frame. This glass, however, is in good condition, ensuring the buyer will always appear the fairest of them all. Hammer: £6,500 * 01722 424500; woolleyandwallis.co.uk
