ALISON SNOWDON

-

Valuer and auctioneer at Fieldings What a charming clock! I particularly like the little girl petting the donkey. Sadly, I don’t know who made your clock and, with no reference to a maker or serial number, the ‘Made in England’ mark is relatively generic. The chinoiserie style has been in and out of fashion for hundreds of years, but had a real resurgence in the 1920s and 1930s when travel to the Far East became more easily available. I think in terms of date, your clock is 1930s – the hands and numerals are certainly art deco in style. At auction, I would suggest an estimate of £ 40 to £ 60.
