Depicting the Swiss mountain, The Blue Rigi is considered to be one of Turner’s best artworks, and it has sold at Christie’s no less than four times over the past century. First bought by the artist Elhanan Bicknell in 1842, it was sold at Christie’s following his death. It was then bought by JE Taylor, and sold again in 1912 to Agnews, the art dealers. Thereafter, it was bought by Walter H Jones, and !nally sold in 2006 to the Tate Britain for £ 5,826,000!
