De­pict­ing the Swiss moun­tain, The Blue Rigi is con­sid­ered to be one of Turner’s best art­works, and it has sold at Christie’s no less than four times over the past cen­tury. First bought by the artist El­hanan Bick­nell in 1842, it was sold at Christie’s fol­low­ing his death. It was then bought by JE Taylor, and sold again in 1912 to Agnews, the art deal­ers. There­after, it was bought by Wal­ter H Jones, and !nally sold in 2006 to the Tate Bri­tain for £ 5,826,000!
