MEISSEN CUP AND SAUCER
Quite how Baron Edmond de Rothschild, the Paris- based scion of the famous German banking family, acquired this Meissen beaker and saucer is not recorded. After his death in 1934, his heirs donated most of his vast museumquality collection of antiques to the Louvre. However, in 1977 an anonymous consigner put this ultra- rare Meissen piece up for auction at Christie’s, where it was duly snapped up by discerning ceramics collector, Eve Newgas. After Eve’s death, Bonhams mounted a sale of her collection, and the very same octagonal beaker and saucer took a starring role, selling for £10,000, on 15th June 2016.
