SERPENTINE COMMODES

-

The pair of commodes either side of the fireplace date from the mid 18th century. They are made with the curvaceous serpentine profile of the rococo style that emerged in France during the reign of Louis XV and became desirable throughout much of Europe during that period. In addition to variegated marble tops, they feature decorative ormolu handles and corner mounts fashioned with extravagant foliate and floral forms.
