Such was the clamour surrrounding Sotheby’s Bowie/Collector sale late in 2016 that over 55,870 people visited the pre- sale exhibitions, while 1,750 bidders attended the sale itself, snapping up every lot. David Bowie loved modern furniture, and the ‘ Lido’ sofa, designed by Michele De Lucchi for Memphis in Milan, was one of a number of Memphis pieces he owned.
