12 PRINCESS DIANA’S MIDNIGHT-BLUE EVENING GOWN, 1985 SOLD: $222,500 (£164,300)

The Princess of Wales was wearing this velvet gown when she famously danced with actor John Travolta at a White House gala dinner hosted by the Reagans on 11th November 1985. One of 79 dresses sold at Christie’s New York in 1997 to raise funds for Diana’s charities, the Victor Edelstein design fetched the highest price. In 2013, it was re-sold by Kerry Taylor Auctions in London, this time commanding £267,700.
