Irresistible charm

-

I once bought what was described as a ‘hand-painted 19th- century dinner service’ as I just couldn’t resist the charm of the pale green, gold and lovely rose pattern. I found similarly shaped dishes online in the same green with slightly di erent rose patterns in both Coalport and Rockingham, but no actual match. It’s a large service with 18 plates – I suspect it’s not a dinner service as the plates are small and all the serving dishes are open. The cake stand is damaged and bluntly repaired – I’m hoping this can be undone. All the pieces bear the same numbers in red on the back ‘3/979’ and on the back of one serving dish a symbol as well, possibly ‘II’ in Roman numerals. I am new to collecting china and any advice would be greatly received, especially the books I should read. GIGI ALLEN, VIA EMAIL
